Lignin-preserving bleaching In a lignin-preserving, i.e., non-delignifying, bleaching process, the colour stripping of the fibre stock is based on modification of the coloured organic molecules into colourless molecules. Chemical reactions with the bleaching chemicals alter the wood chromophores. This involves only limited degradation of the organic substances into soluble compounds. All conjugated carbonyls are attacked.
