ForestBioFacts review and update project begins

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Since its launch in 2020, ForestBioFacts has established itself as the trusted service used for for example introducing forest-based bioeconomy for industry newcomers, utilising the data for research and development purposes, and as digital learning material in companies and universities and educational institutions worldwide. Today, ForestBioFacts is in use already in over 50 organisations globally and there are nearly 6000 registered users.

To ensure the content remains reliable and current, a systematic content review and update project was launched in May 2024. During the project, articles from all 16 themes will be reviewed over the next four years, four themes per year. The review work will be done together with dedicated teams of industry experts. We will for example update outdated information, correct possible errors, and evaluate the need for completely new content.

During 2024, the following themes will be reviewed:

  • Introduction to forest-based bioeconomy
  • Natural fibre products
  • Man-made bio-based fibre products
  • Environmental control and management

Review work will take place between May and September after which we will gradually start implementing the reviewed content to ForestBioFacts platform. Update work for the abovementioned four themes is schedulet to be completed in February 2025.

Would you like to be involved?

We have recruited experts for all review teams for 2024 but there is still room for interested people to join. If you wish to take part in the review work this year or wish to preliminarily sign up for future review work, please contact Development Manager Vera Hallikainen at vera.hallikainen@puunjalostusinsinoorit.fi who is responsible for the project or send a message to info@forestbiofacts.com. In your email, describe your topic of expertise, to which ForestBioFacts theme it is related to, and your availability.

Continuously developing ForestBioFacts

The review and update project is a part of a wider development plan aiming to ensure ForestBioFacts meets the needs of its various users, the content stays relevant and on world-class level, and the accessibility and ease of use increases. On the roadmap are for example implementing a digital learning assessment tool to all the articles and increasing the utilisation of artificial intelligence. We will keep you updated on the development of these new features.
