ForestBioFacts – A Handy Everyday Tool for Metsä Group

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

When the 16-themed digital learning environment ForestBioFacts was launched in 2020, it was immediately adopted by Metsä Board. Today, it serves as a convenient everyday tool accessible to the entire company’s staff.

“I don’t use ForestBioFacts every single day, but quite often. In situations where I encounter a newer or more unusual issue, or need to find an image or verify some information, the search function allows me to quickly find the answer in ForestBioFacts. My colleagues, on the other hand, can familiarize themselves with the backgrounds of new research topics, results, and the progress of the research,” says Leena Yliniemi, Product Management Director at Metsä Board.

“If we had to obtain information from elsewhere, we would always have to weigh its reliability,” she notes.

Yliniemi appreciates that the learning environment provides basic information on various topics by theme, but also allows for deeper exploration if desired. Learning paths have been created to help users progress. There are two learning paths: a shorter one for those less familiar with the field and a longer one for industry professionals.

“I have studied pulp and paper technology myself, but it’s interesting to expand my knowledge and explore new topics such as textile fibres.”

In onboarding, ForestBioFacts has proven to be an excellent tool. “New employees can easily familiarize themselves with the bioforest industry. Even those not directly involved in production, such as those working in HR or finance, can easily study the field. A good addition is the upcoming feature to test learning within the themes.”

Keeping an eye on the review project

Yliniemi names ForestBioFacts webinars as her favourite content within the learning environment. “In the webinars, industry experts discuss something new and current. They have been very good. It’s also great that the webinars are recorded and available for viewing on ForestBioFacts after the live broadcast.”

Metsä Board recently held a staff event where ForestBioFacts was also introduced. New users logged into ForestBioFacts and explored its content. “Many commented on how easy it is to access the information and how conveniently it can be found,” Yliniemi says about the feedback.

Now that a systematic update round of all themes is starting in the ForestBioFacts learning environment, Leena Yliniemi plans to actively follow what new content comes with the updates.
